Job Summary 1 Regular Full-Time Position
Must be available Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, must be available 24/7.
Must be flexible with schedule changes in order to meet operational needs.

  • Assists Laboratory Manager with directing supervisory staff, and with the operational management of laboratory services to support the company mission, vision and strategic goals. Assumes responsibility of the department or assigned area in the absence of the Manager.
  • Provides leadership by planning, organizing, and directing operational activities of the department or assigned area, and works with the Manager, Laboratory Director and Hospital Administration, as applicable, to ensure service levels meet the needs of clients and patients.
  • Assistant Managers in Oahu positions will be assigned to various laboratories throughout Oahu, including rural areas, for extended periods of time.
  • Represents management and the company.
  • Will be responsible for Core Lab, Microbiology, QMC Punchbowl Lab, and QMC West Oahu Lab
Qualifications Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related science and successful completion of training in an approved School of Medical Technology; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree, relevant training, and comparable work experience, OR
  • There may be additional requirements for those serving as General Supervisor and/or Technical Consultant/Supervisor to meet CLIA requirements.

Experience:

  • Six years experience as MT or MLT or Specialist with relevant clinical training in a specialty area (Microbiology, Diagnostic Immunology, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunohematology – moderately complex testing only).
  • Continuing education in one or more disciplines within the laboratory and in laboratory management.
  • As applicable: Four years of training and/or experience in high complexity testing in the designated specialty(ies) of service for which the person is responsible and 6 months of experience in high complexity testing for the designated subspecialty(ies) of service.
  • Three years of supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Independent (outreach) laboratory experience preferred.

Certification:

Certified as an MT/MLS, Categorical (e.g. M(ASCP), or Specialist (e.g. SM(ASCP) by one of the following National Commission of Health Certifying Agencies or by an agency recognized by the Hawaii Department of Health Laboratories Branch:

  • American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP-BOC),
  • American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB),
  • American Medical Technologists (AMT)

Licensure:

Hawaii State License as Technologist, or Specialist, as appropriate.

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both in verbal and written form.
  • Effective coaching skills.
  • Intermediate personal computer skills preferred, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and routine database. (Ex: send/receive email, create letters, format data, use tables, insert objects)
