BUILDING INSPECTOR AID (SR-14)
Assists higher level inspectors in inspecting the construction, alteration or maintenance of buildings and structures of limited size and scope for compliance with the provisions of building and zoning codes and ordinances and adherence to approved plans and specifications by inspecting phases of projects; and performs other related duties as required.
Work duties may include the following special work requirements: Climb ladders, scaffoldings, and temporary stairs, work at excessive heights, crawl under structures and may at time carry heavy loads; walks through timber-shoring, steel jacks, formed columns and wall sections that support the tremendous weight of poured reinforced concrete; inspects buildings that have been structurally damaged by fire, deterioration, dilapidation, abandonment, inadequate maintenance, disaster damage, or obsolescence. The current position also require the use of a personal vehicle and valid no-fault automobile insurance coverage as a condition of employment (mileage will be reimbursed).
There is one vacancy with the Department of Planning and Permitting, Building Division. This list may be used to fill future vacancies in this and/or other departments.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
TWO (2) years of experience in inspecting or supervising building construction, preparing and/or reading and applying building plans and specifications, or interpreting and/or applying the Building Code and related ordinances.

A reproduced copy of your diploma and/or official transcript which shows the embossed seal and the specific degree conferred must be submitted in order to be given credit. Valid Hawaii State driver's license (Type 3), prior to appointment.
