Job Summary 1 Regular Full-Time Position
Must be available Monday through Friday 7:00 am – 5:00 pm. May be required to work longer hours, weekends, and/or on different shifts to meet operational needs.
Must be flexible with schedule changes in order to meet operational needs.

  • Provides leadership by planning, organizing, and directing operational activities of the hospital laboratory to support the company mission and vision, and meet strategic goals.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Directs supervisory staff.
  • Directs the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures.
  • Manages people resources.
  • Manages financial resources.
  • Manages continuous quality improvements.
  • Works with Laboratory Director and Hospital Administration to ensure service levels meet the needs of the hospital staff and patients.
  • May be responsible for Decentralized Laboratory Testing (DLT).
  • Represents management and the company.
Qualifications Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related science and successful completion of training in an approved School of Medical Technology; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree, relevant training, and comparable work experience.
  • There may be additional requirements for those serving as General Supervisor and/or Technical Consultant/Supervisor to meet CLIA requirements.

Experience:

  • Seven years as MT or MLT with continuing education in one or more disciplines within the laboratory and in laboratory management.
  • As applicable: Four years of training and/or experience in high complexity testing in the designated specialty(ies) of service for which the person is responsible and 6 months of experience in high complexity testing for the designated subspecialty(ies) of service.
  • Three years of supervisory or managerial experience.

Certification:

  • Certified as an MT/MLS or MLT by one of the following National Commission of Health Certifying Agencies or by an agency recognized by the Hawaii Department of Health Laboratories Branch:

a. American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP-BOC),

b. American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB),

c. American Medical Technologists (AMT)

Licensure:

Hawaii State license as a Technologist or Technician.

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both in verbal and written form.
  • Effective coaching skills.
  • Intermediate personal computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and routine database activity. (Ex: email, create letters, format data, use tables, insert objects)
