Kapi‘olani Medical Specialists (KMS) is a specialty physician group dedicated to caring for Hawai‘i's women and children through excellence in academics, physician training, medical research and clinical care. The group is comprised of over 100 Specialists, Nurse Practitioners and other staff, covering newborn to women's health services at Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children. KMS operates exclusively for charitable, scientific and educational purposes, offering highly specialized care options at Kapi‘olani and building support for these services within Hawai‘i as a whole. The group’s specialty areas include: Behavioral Health Services, Emergency Medicine, Hematology/Oncology, Neonatology and the full spectrum of Pediatrics.


As a physician for pediatric and adult patients: examine, diagnose and treat disorders, diseases, and injuries of the ear, nose, and throat; examine the affected organs with the use of equipment such as x-ray machines, fluoroscopes, microscopes, nasoscopes, prisms, and audiometers; determine the nature and severity of the disorder, and prescribe medications or conduct surgery; perform tests to find out the severity of hearing or speech loss due to diseases or injuries; perform reconstructive surgery to treat birth defects; remove benign and malignant tumors of the face and neck; install cochlear implants; and treat sleep disorders. Participate in pediatric specialty clinics (Cleft and Craniofacial Clinic, and Vascular Anomaly Clinic), including responsibility for working with a multidisciplinary team of experts that specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care of patient with craniofacial deformities (congenital or acquired), as well as facial vascular anomalies. Responsible for one in two call coverage for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, including covering the emergency room, inpatient consults, and outside and outer island consults.

Minimum Qualifications: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or foreign equivalent degree required. Must have 72 months of training as follows: Residency (60 months) in Otolaryngology--Head and Neck Surgery; and Fellowship (12 months) in facial plastics, pediatric otolaryngology or neurotology. Must have skills in facial reconstruction including ear reconstruction, facial scar recision, reconstruction of defect following skin cancer removal, nasal reconstruction for aesthetic and function, reconstruction of facial deformities caused by trauma. Must have valid Hawaii medical license or eligibility.
